Fig & Olive NYC

Three NYC Locations

I’ve been looking forward to tackling this spot for awhile, and New York City’s Restaurant Week seemed like the perfect opportunity. We went to the Fifth avenue location for the pre-fix dinner costing $35 for a three course meal. Right off the bat, the staff was inattentive leaving us at the bar waiting for the upstairs restaurant to open. They told us to sit down, and neglected to tell us to go upstairs where the hostess would seat us. It’s your typical small, too close for comfortable NYC seating, so get ready to see what your neighbors are eating. We sat by the window, and our waiter was very friendly and helpful.

Living up to part of the name they started us with 3 types of olive oil and a focaccia bread. We had both the tuna tartare and the zucchini carpaccio, both appetizers were delicious! I loved the carpaccio, thinly sliced zucchini drizzled with o.o (olive oil) topped with pine nuts and parmesan shavings. The appetizer round won the meal for me, as the halibut over lemon thyme pesto with orecchiette pasta was enjoyable, the portion of fish was small and overcooked. The dessert round was underwhelming with an uninvented shortbread cookie topped with a berry mixture, and a chocolate mousse which was overly rich and sweet. The pricing is on the higher end which is why I’d recommend the pre-fix.

Save $10 dollars by going to lunch!!
